Road trips can be a great time to create memories and enjoy spending extensive time with those you love. However, being prepared with the right equipment for your trip is important. Here is a list of a few things to check off your list before hitting the open road.
Vehicle Essentials
You’ll want to start with the basics. Of course, you aren’t going to want to leave without your driver’s license, vehicle registration, or proof of insurance. This ensures you are driving legally. In addition, you’ll want a roadside kit. This is good for emergencies. A few basic things to include in your roadside kit include:
- Jumper cables
- Flashlight with spare batteries
- Vehicle fuses
- First aid kit
- Bottled water
You may have put some of these items in your vehicle when you first found your new Ford for sale. In addition to these items, make sure you know how to use your jumper cables and change your car’s fuses. You should also keep some basic tools in your vehicle to ensure you’re prepared.

If you want a backup, then consider having a paper map or atlas with you. This may be helpful if you will be traveling in areas that don’t have good cell service. Ensure the maps are current so you don’t find yourself stuck in the middle of nowhere. If you’re traveling in multiple cars, you might have a walkie-talkie to communicate between vehicles. Again, this can be useful in areas with spotty service.
Snacks and Comfort Items
Being in the car for hours at a time can be taxing, especially if you aren’t prepared. Bring things like snacks and water bottles to ensure your hunger and thirst are addressed. Car pillows and a small blanket can be useful if you want to catch a nap while someone else drives. Consider bringing a travel cooler so your drinks and refreshments can stay chilled. Getting magazines, books, or a book of crossword puzzles can help pass the time when on the road.
Child and Pet Supplies
If traveling with children or pets, you will want some basic supplies. For small children, bring some diapers, wipes, and some snacks that are safe for them to eat. Consider getting some toys to help keep them entertained. For pets, you will want some travel food, water bowls, and a collar and leash for taking them on potty breaks during the drive. During those breaks, be sure to walk them around for a few minutes, so they have a chance to get rid of some excess energy.
